Loving, Discipling, Serving others for the Glory of GOD

The Cross at WUMC

The cross in our sanctuary was designed to not only remind us  of the SACRIFICE  God’s Son for us but also to show us more.
The center and inlaid strip of light wood is made of hard maple. The light-colored maple was chosen to represent purity, a life with Christ.

The dark wood which surrounds and encircles the cross is black walnut. The dark-colored wood was selected to represent death, a life  of sin.   The red-colored wood, which makes up the body of Christ on the cross,     is made of South American bloodwood. Obviously, this color was chosen to represent the blood.
As you look at the cross, you will notice the light-colored maple which     makes up the center and the inlaid strip around the cross. This represents the purity which can only exist without sin.

The center of the cross represents heaven. The in-laid strip represents the church, the followers of Christ.

The red strips in the center of the cross are arranged in the form of Christ’s blood-stained, broken body. Notice the dark strip separating the two light-colored pieces.  Although God is with us, this serves as a reminder that without Christ, we are separated from God because of sin. Also, the head is facing right and the right arm is turned up to show Christ welcoming into the kingdom one of the criminals with whom He was crucified. In turn, the left arm is turned down and Christ’s head is facing away from the criminal who refused the free gift of grace.

Because of this perfect sacrifice, our sins are forgiven and we can have eternal life if only we accept this free gift.

Won't you take a few moments and accept this gift?
